The 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) was held on May 6 with the intention of recognizing excellence in music. Themed “The People, The Culture, The Music”, Ghanaian music was indeed celebrated on its most esteemed night. During the year under review, musicians were honored.
MOG, Fiifi Folson, Nana Ama McBrown, Kwabena Kwabena, Celestine Donkor, Jay Foley, Queen Afriyie, Osebo the Zaraman, Chief One, Shega, Abochi, Andy Dosty, Camidoh, EL, Chris Nunies, Miriam Xorlasi (Miss Ghana 2022), and a slew of other well-known individuals appeared on the red carpet.
Red carpet hosts, Fiifi Coleman and Crystal ensured the stars were engaged with interesting questions that made the discussions enthusiastic and intriguing. Numerous designers, including “weird” ones that got people talking, were on the red carpet as usual.
The audience who were waiting to see a beautiful 24th VGMA were already packed in the hall where the main event was taking place.
Berla Mundi, James Gardiner, and Naa Ashorkor, all excellent emcees, delivered an awesome opening and a welcome message. Their smiles, outfits, the boldness and confidence and the delight was the hallmark of these fine hosts as they pulled of a stunning intro.
Despite a minor setback in the first two minutes of hosts introduction, their telepathy was accurate.
The biggest Ghanaian music festival was now ready to go down; in other words, the 2023 Ghana Music Awards. It was officially opened by gospel artists Piesie Esther, MOG, Kofi Owusu Peprah, Ohemaa Mercy, Ceccy Twum, and a slew of incredible gospel acts.
Piesie Esther’s “Way3 Me Yie” was the song that was performed. The song was well-coordinated, and each of them gave a fantastic performance, setting the audience up to anticipate more in the evening.
In addition to the stellar performance by the all-star gospel musicians, KiDi was the next surprise performer who stunned everyone with his outstanding performance. Concerning the recent issues with his health that had surfaced, he had been the subject of conversation.
Despite the fact that he is believed to be recuperating from illness, it appears that no one anticipated seeing him perform on stage. However, the once Artist of the Year was there, and his performance was epic.
Dancehall artist DSL was one performer who also gave a good account of himself with an exceptional performance that got people talking. The gentleman was absolutely phenomenal. His show was marked by his vocals, self-confidence, and a perfectly chosen song. DSL was honoured in front of the audience as the winner of this year’s ‘Unsung’ category after his performance.
Other artists who pulled off extremely engaging show for the audience were:
Epixode
Lasmid ( his performance came with a bit of jitteriness, despite the fact that he got along nicely)
Black Sherif
Gyakie
King Promise
Kwabena Kwabena
