2024 National Honors Awards: Daddy Lumba Revered For His Outstanding Contributions To The Creative Industry

On Monday, December 30, legendary Ghanaian singer-songwriter Charles Kwadwo Fosu, better known by his stage name Daddy Lumba (DL), was honored at the National Honours and Awards 2024 for his outstanding contributions to Ghana’s creative arts sector.

Gyedu Blay Ambolley was among the legends who also received the Grand Medal for their devoted service to Ghana during the ceremony, which was held at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Since 1989, Daddy Lumba has delighted Ghanaians and people all over the world with his amazing hit songs that appeal to all ages, even the young.

Agenda, Sika, Awarepa Ye, Anibre, Ko Hye Po, Ase3 Ho, Ahenfo Kyiniye, Sesee Wo Se, Mesom Jesus, Play Boy, Daddy Lumba, and many more are among the 60-year-old’s 34 amazing albums.

DL is well-known and considered by many to be the best Ghanaian musician of all time. Millions of people adore his songs because they cover a wide range of topics, including love, death, sorrow, regrets, inspiration, and more about life.

Daddy Lumba, who has a large following worldwide, typically releases songs that resonate with listeners right away. Up until now, he still does it whenever the need arises.

Daddy Lumba released another single, “Ofon Na Edi Asem Fo,” on December 23, 2022, and it became a huge hit with the public. He then released “Nya Abotore Na Twen Awurade” once more in October 2023.

“Yene Wo Sere Kwa,” which translates to “People just laugh with you for a purpose, but the evil minds behind the smile is real,” or even better, “Hypocrisy,” is one of his most well-known songs from recent years.

The National Honors Awards ceremony which was established in 1960 is to recognise individuals and institutions who have made distinguished contributions to Ghana’s development. The initiative, first introduced under the leadership of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, continues to celebrate creativity, excellence, and hard work in various fields of endeavour.

The honours, spanning several categories, include the Grand Medal, the Order of the Volta (Member and Companion), and the Order of the Star of Ghana (Member and Officer), among others.
