
Jordan Ayew came from the bench to score a beautiful winner for Ghana as they beat Mali in Bamako on Thursday night.
The Black Stars recorded a 2-1 win over the Eagles of Mali to move joint-top of Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers as they procured their first win in six games.
Ernest Nuamah scored for Ghana after the break to make it 1-1 before Jordan got the winner late in added time [90+ minutes].
The Malians began the game with full strength and almost got an early goal, but Ghana’s goalie Lawrence Ati-Zigi pulled off splendid saves to deny the Eagles.
The goalkeeper originally came up large in the fifth minute of the game after a left-footed shot from a Malian attacker prior to driving away an effort from a corner.
Ghana’s first shot in the game came in the sixteenth minute, but Mohammed Kudus’ strike went over the crossbar.
Ghana bit by bit got hold of the game and had two or three chances, but Kudus, for the first time, shot wide before Antoine Semenyo’s shot across goal.
Mali got the opener through Kamory Doubia whose shot redirected off Alexander Djiku from his prior strike to give Mali the lead in added minutes.
The game went into break with the Eagles ahead of the pack.
The Black Stars nearly got an equaliser soon after the break, but Antoine Semenyo couldn’t get enough of Tariq Lamptey’s low cross.
But, Ernest Nuamah scored in the 58th minute to give the Black Stars the much needed goal.
The Olympique Lyon forward rose most noteworthy to head home Salis Abdul Samed’s splendid cross to draw Ghana level.

Thomas Partey ought to have snatched the triumphant goal for Otto Addo’s side not long before added time, but the midfielder’s effort from a one-on-one circumstance was saved by the Malian goalkeeper.
