Everything You Need To Know About Ewurabena Aubynn, NDC’s Ablekuma North Candidate

There are 19 polling stations for the parliamentary rerun election in Ablekuma North on Friday, July 11, 2025 (ongoing). This comes after an EC decision to settle the outstanding results from the general election held on December 7, 2024, and a High Court order.

Ewurabena Aubynn of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are the candidates running in this significant election.

The NDC candidate has to comply with the Electoral Commission’s order for a rerun in 19 polling places despite losing to Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie in December 2024.

The party, which ran a fierce campaign before today’s vote, claims that this repeat validates her mandate.

Who Is Ewurabena Aubynn?

Ewurabena established the Awula Foundation in February 2023 with the goal of helping vulnerable children (orphans, single-parent households) by providing small-business grants, staple food distributions to women and youth in Ablekuma North, and scholarships that cover school fees and materials up to the tertiary level.

Her goal as the founder is to foster skill development, community empowerment, and the creation of future “change agents and nation builders” for all, especially her constituents.

Interestingly, Ewurabena, the NDC’s candidate for Ablekuma North, was later proclaimed the winner of the December elections and was named a 2024 parliamentary contender.

Debates ensued after the EC later re-collated and invalidated the results. Her victory, according to the NDC, represented the true will of the people.

Ewurabena Aubynn, however, consistently charged the EC with bias, claiming that the NDC was left out of planning and communication during collation. She questioned their “secret” meetings and asserted that EC collusion had a soft spot for the NPP.

She also questioned why the pink sheets were lost after EC presented “strange” figures. Ewurabena urged judicial independence, emphasizing the need for public confidence in the legal process.

Advocacy & Protest

In early February 2025, she led a vigil at the Kwashieman Chiefs’ Palace, with NDC supporters protesting delays and alleged result manipulation.

She declared readiness to fight legally and peacefully to uphold what she asserts is the true mandate of her constituents.

As of July 2025, following an EC decision to rerun voting in 19 polling stations, the NDC reaffirmed full support for her candidacy, labeling her “capable, competent, and well-fit”.

The rerun indicates ongoing electoral uncertainty and a sustained campaign on her part.
