Prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Sammy Awuku has issued a stern warning following the violent disturbances that marred the Ablekuma North elections. Speaking in a phone interview with Osei Bonsu (OB) on Asempa FM’s political talk show ‘Ekosii Sen’ on Friday, July 11, 2025, Awuku declared that the NPP would not forget the chaos that unfolded during the election process.
According to him, the violence and disorder that characterized the electoral exercise were unacceptable and must not be allowed to repeat.
“We shall remember what happened at Ablekuma North. We shall never forget it. It will not be swept under the carpet,” Awuku stated firmly during the interview.
He further noted that the events at Ablekuma North were not just a local issue, but a threat to Ghana’s democratic stability. He condemned the acts of violence and called for thorough investigations and accountability, regardless of the political affiliations of those involved.
“The NPP believes in peaceful, credible elections. What we witnessed was far from that,” he emphasized.
Awuku’s comments come in the wake of reports of serious clashes and unrest at polling centers in the constituency, which led to injuries and disruptions during the voting process.
Eyewitnesses and observers reported the presence of armed individuals, ballot snatching attempts, and intimidation of voters — incidents that have drawn widespread criticism from both civil society and international observers.
The former National Organizer of the NPP also called on the Electoral Commission and the security agencies to ensure that future elections in the constituency — and across the country — are conducted in a more secure and transparent environment.

“We will remain vigilant,” Awuku concluded. “The peace and will of the people must always triumph over chaos and lawlessness.”
The Ablekuma North elections, which were meant to be a decisive moment in the parliamentary race, have now become a focal point of national concern, with many calling for reforms to protect Ghana’s democratic institutions.
