A Full Analysis of Ghana’s Tourism Sector For 2024

Building on the momentum of prior years, Ghana’s tourism industry saw notable expansion in 2024. The performance and earnings of the tourism industry were outstanding.

Approximately 600,000 tourists visited Ghana in the first half of 2024, bringing in about $1.8 billion in revenue.

Over 1.3 million visitors arrived in the second half of 2024, according to the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), which earned the country over $3 billion in total revenue for the year.

This initiative continued to draw tourists from abroad and the African diaspora after the successful “Year of Return” in 2019, raising Ghana’s profile internationally.

To enhance the visitor experience, the government made investments in the renovation of popular tourist destinations like the Pikworo Slave Camp, the Yaa Asantewaa Mausoleum, and the Aburi Gardens.

Ghana appealed to a diverse range of tourists by promoting a variety of tourism activities, including ecotourism, business travel, and cultural festivals.

Nonetheless, 44% of travelers thought Ghana was an expensive place to visit, with hotel expenses taking up a sizable amount of their spending plans.
