The establishment of a specialized court to address the specific needs of the Creative Arts Industry was a priority of the President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo when he took over power.
The commitment of this significant industry to the economy of the nation is recognized by the government of Ghana, and the need to protect and promote same can’t be overemphasized.
Subsequently, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture engaged the Office of the Chief Justice to guarantee the establishment of a specialized court to deal with issues of the industry.
To that end, the Chief Justice approved the establishment of the court, as a division of the High Court to deal with copyright and other related matters pertaining to the Creative Arts Industry.
It was the expectation of Government that this court will facilitate the effective and expeditious resolution of specific disputes that affect the Creative Arts Industry to protect the rights and interests of creative practitioners.
The Ministry in consultation with the Judicial Service communicated the modalities for the Court in October 2020.
Why Ghana Needs A Hall Of Fame!
This was officially stated by the then Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi in July 2020.
The Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin Yeboah at the time, approved for the establishment of a specialised court to deal with copyright and other related matters affecting the creative arts industry in August 2020.
However, since this excellent thought, nothing has been done up until this day. The Creative industry has been anxiously sitting tight for this commitment, and still staying optimistic.
