Digital Realty, a world leader in data center and connectivity services, formally opened its ACR2 Data Center in Accra, giving Ghana’s digital infrastructure a significant boost.
The recently opened ACR2 facility, which offers a local response to the demands for data worldwide, represents a sea change in Ghana’s digitalization program.
The facility, which can accommodate 500 server racks and support 1.7 megawatts of IT load, establishes Ghana as a major data hub in West Africa. Hon. Samuel Nartey George praised Digital Realty for its strategic investment during the launch, pointing out that the center directly supports Ghana’s policies regarding digital sovereignty and data localization.
He emphasized that Ghana can now host and manage local data within its borders, thanks to facilities like ACR2, guaranteeing adherence to new data protection laws and luring international tech companies to invest there.
He added that programs like ACR2 would aid in lowering latency, improving security, and bolstering national digital resilience, while the government’s Localization Policy and Data Harmonization Act foster an atmosphere that is conducive to digital innovation.
Communication Minister Adjudged Public Sector Digital Leader Of The Year
In order to gain firsthand knowledge of the organization’s daily operations, the Minister also took a tour of the facility.
According to Mr. Joseph Koranteng, Managing Director of Digital Realty Ghana, ACR2 is a digital gateway for the sub-region rather than only a data facility. The 2Africa Cable is housed there, and it has a direct connection to Digital Realty’s global network of over 300 data centers spread over six continents.
Mr. Koranteng continued that, the project was built by Ghanaian engineers and designed to meet global performance and security standards. It offers a reliable environment for businesses, startups, and multinational enterprises to expand operations without dependence on offshore data infrastructure.
