A Special Farewell Event To Pay Tribute To Prof. Ernest Aryeetey Held At UG

Emeritus Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, has finished his term as Secretary-General of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA).

In acknowledgment of his spell to the Alliance and the University of Ghana, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Board of ARUA, hosted a send-off event in his honour.

The event was also used to welcome Prof. John Gyapong, the new ARUA Secretary-General who succeeds Emeritus Prof. Aryeetey and was supported by the Director and staff of the Institute for Statistical, Social, and Economic Research (ISSER). Gyapong is a former UG Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Development.

The administration of the University of Ghana, partners and companions of Emeritus Prof. Aryeetey and Prof. Gyapong all met up to commend him for his mind blowing commitments made to propelling joint efforts and research among ARUA universities.

Vice-Chancellor and Vice-Chair of the Board of ARUA, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, was full of praise for Emeritus Prof. Aryeetey for his sterling leadership, which she mentioned was hinged on his humility and integrity.

Emeritus Professor Aryeetey had distinguished himself through decades of outstanding service at UG, Ghana, and ARUA.

The ARUA Board and Vice-Chancellor of Rhodes University, Prof. Sizwe Mabizela, also gave a goodbye message, and honored Emeritus Prof. Aryeetey for his responsibility and commitment.

Altruism messages were also shared from different partners of the ARUA organization, every one of whom honored Emeritus Prof. Aryeetey.

Following the conveyance of the goodwill messages, Emeritus Prof. Aryeetey was joined by his wife, Prof. (Mrs.) Ellen Bortei-Doku Aryeetey, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Pro Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Gordon A. Awandare, Director of ISSER Prof. Peter Quartey and the new ARUA Secretary-General Prof. John Gyapong to cut the cake presented to him.

Several other presentations from various groups were made to Emeritus Prof. Aryeetey in acknowledgment of his exceptional commitments to ARUA and the more extensive scholastic community.
