AFCON 2025: Ghana’s Chances Of Qualification Is In ‘Big’ Danger

After their loss to Sudan on Tuesday, October 15, the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is in danger.

On matchday four of the qualifying series for the Africa Cup of Nations, the Black Stars lost to the Sudanese by a score of 2-0 in Libya.

After a mix-up in the Ghanaian box which resulted in a missed clearance, Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud scored for the Falcons of Jediane in the 62nd minute.

The forward tapped into the empty net after a failed clearance off the line by Gideon Mensah to make it 1-0.

After ‘overpowering’ Mohammed Salisu and defeating Lawrence Ati-Zigi, the home team’s Mohamed Abdelrahman doubled their lead three minutes later to make it 2-0.

Inaki Williams verged on decreasing the shortfall for Ghana but his volley from Tariq Lamptey’s cross went wide of the post.

The Black Stars made a last-ditch effort to score a consolation goal, but they were unable to do so and the game ended 2-0.

The loss implies Ghana would need other results turning out well for them and hope they can win all of their matches left in the November international break when they play Niger and Angola.

With just two points from four games—two wins, two losses —the Black Stars are third in Group F.
