Regarding people or parties seeking a refund of their deposit for affordable housing units that was paid for housing units offered by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) for the completed units at Borteyman and Asokore-Mampong, the Ministry of Works and Housing has formally issued a statement.
Below is the full release:
“We present to you the compliments of the Ministry of Works and Housing.
You will recall that in 2005 when government commenced work on the construction of affordable housing units at Kpone, Borteyman and Asokore-Mampong in the Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions of Ghana, government issued provisional allocation letters to interested buyers.
On the basis of this, the allottees were made to make initial deposit to enable them access the housing units after the final selling price is determined upon completion.
Regrettably, the projects stalled in 2008 due to the lack of funds. Subsequently, the Ministry handed over these projects to Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and TDC Development Company Limited for completion. Since then, the Borteyman and Asokore-Mampong Housing Projects have been completed by SSNIT while work is progressing steadily for the completion of the Kpone Affordable Housing Units.
Consequently, a number of the allottees were able to raise the additional funding to pay for the housing units at the prevailing selling price offered by SSNIT for the completed units at Borteyman and Asokore-Mampong. Interested depositors who are willing to raise the additional funds still have the option to buy any of the completed units.
Following from the above, the Ministry wishes to invite all the affected allottees who are interested in pursuing the refund of their deposits to contact the Ministry of Works and Housing.
All such interested allottees should endeavor to come along with copies of the following documents:
- Offer letter
- Receipt covering the payment for the initial deposit
- National ID Card (i.e. Ghana Card)
Where the initial depositor cannot visit the Ministry due to ill health or other tenable reasons, an authority note with valid National ID Card of the depositor will be accepted.
Similarly, in the event where the depositor is deceased, the next of kin with a copy of the Letters of Administration or probate will be admitted for the verification.
