African players have been at the center of the Premier League’s excitement and excellence for as long as it has been around.
SuperSport is launching a ground-breaking campaign to get fans to nominate the best African players who have ever played in England’s top league to commemorate the league’s 30th anniversary.
From Mo Salah and Didier Drogba to Benni McCarthy and some more, African legends have been found every step of the way.
A 60-minute show with Thomas Mlambo, Leeds legend Lucas Radebe, and former Premier League star John Barnes to select their greatest African PL XI of all time was produced by SuperSport and Premier League Productions in recognition of this wealth of talent.
From a shortlist of 30 players, fans can choose the Premier League’s best African team (XI). It was made clear that there was a vibrant mix of talent and star power that had stood the test of time.
Fans will be able to cast votes for their 11 favorite African players online (www.supersport.com/africaxi) without having to form teams between March 24 and May 25.
In June and July of 2023, there will be media events in South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria.
The campaign will come to a close with a gala awards dinner in Lagos, Nigeria, where the fans’ chosen African All-Star XI will be unveiled.
The Campaign:
SuperSport is running a ground-breaking campaign to encourage fans to choose the greatest African players who have ever played in the Premier League to commemorate the league’s 30th anniversary. The viewers of SuperSport will decide which Premier League team is the best in Africa.
On March 24, 2023, voting began. There is a cap of one selection per person out of 11 players. Additionally, following the 24th of March, fans will be able to vote for the 30th best African team in the Premier League.
Your preferred 11 players do not have to make up a traditional formation. You are not limited to a certain number of players from any position.
When is the last unveiling of the best XI?
A gala dinner in Lagos, Nigeria, in July 2023, will reveal the XI with the most votes. In honor of the Premier League’s 30th anniversary, there are only 30 players on the All-Star team.
How does the voting platform work?
You will be presented with 30 current/former African Premier League stars to which you will then need to select your greatest XI. From there the platform will allow you to share and post on social media.
Keep in mind that selecting your best XI does not require a subscription. In addition to selecting the team that received the most votes, viewers will be able to participate in the discussion and vote on their favorite Premier League players.
