Ajay Banga Resumes Work As The World Bank President

On Friday, June 2, 2023, the newly elected World Bank President Ajay Banga began his five-year term in office.

At General Atlantic, Ajay Banga most recently held the position of Vice Chairman. Beforehand, he was President and CEO of Mastercard, an international organization with almost 24,000 workers.

Under his initiative, MasterCard launched the Center for Inclusive Growth, which promotes equitable and sustainable economic growth and financial inclusion around the world.

From 2020 to 2022, he was the International Chamber of Commerce’s Honorary Chairman. At its inception in 2021, he became an advisor to the climate-focused fund BeyondNetZero, which is managed by General Atlantic.

The Partnership for Central America is a group of private organizations that works to improve economic opportunity for underserved populations in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Banga was the co-chair of the group. He was beforehand on the Sheets of the American Red Cross, Kraft Food varieties, and Dow Inc.

Ajay Banga is a co-founder of The Cyber Readiness Institute and was Vice Chair of the Economic Club of New York.

He was awarded the Foreign Policy Association Medal in 2012, the Padma Shri Award by the President of India in 2016, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the Business Council for International Understanding’s Global Leadership Award in 2019, and the Distinguished Friends of Singapore Public Service Star in 2021.
