Ako Gunn Questions The New Patriotic Party’s Hesitancy To Appear In Court Over The Suspension Of The CJ

Ako Gunn, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) deputy national communications officer, has voiced worries over the NPP’s hesitancy to pursue legal action in relation to the Chief Justice’s suspension.

Speaking with host Saddick Adams on Angel FM’s morning show on May 5, Gunn asked why, in spite of the issue’s of political and constitutional ramifications, the party has not yet taken it to court.

He found it odd that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) seemed hesitant.

Ako Gunn expressed surprise that the NPP chose not to challenge the suspension in court instead of staging a protest, citing the party’s history of using the legal system to settle political disagreements.

“If they truly believe the suspension is unconstitutional or politically motivated, why aren’t they heading to court?”. This selective approach to legality only raises more questions about their motives and commitment to the rule of law. They are the same people who were preaching ‘Go to Court’ just last year”, Gunn said.

Following the Chief Justice’s suspension, which has polarized political discourse and elicited differing responses from civil society, legal professionals, and political actors, the remarks come amid escalating controversy.

Regardless of the political party in power, Ako Gunn advised the public to exercise caution and asked institutions to respect democratic values.
