Akufo-Addo Has No Confidence In Bawumia Any More

Nana Akufo-Addo, Kwasi Kwarteng and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Kwasi Kwarteng, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s campaign spokeswoman and attorney, has disclosed that Dr. Bawumia is no longer the candidate of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2026 presidential contest.

He revealed this on Friday, July 4, when he appeared on Accra-based JoyPrime TV.

Kwasi Kwarteng claims that after firmly supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the previous election, Akufo-Addo has now turned on him.

Ahead of the NPP’s planned primaries on January 31, 2026, he said Bawumia’s campaign is beset by doubt and confusion due to the former president’s lack of support.

Kwarteng also claimed that Bryan Acheampong and other powerful members of Bawumia’s team no longer believed in his abilities.

For example, Bryan Acheampong played a crucial role in Dr. Bawumia’s camp but has gone solo as an NPP Presidential flagbearer. Kwasi Kwarteng stated,

“Even one of his financiers does not believe in his mission today.”

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong was fully endorsed by Kwarteng on the show, and predicted that Agyapong would win if the NPP had a poll today.

Bawumia Apologizes For NPP’s Shortcomings. Commits To Doing Better

In order to choose its candidate for the main election in 2028, the NPP is currently getting ready for its presidential primary, which is scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The primary contest can turn into a fierce strategic conflict as key party leaders are allegedly switching sides.
