A close source says that Al Ahli are willing to give Riyad Mahrez a contract worth €100 million plus bonuses if he leaves Manchester City.
A delegation including the Saudi Arabia club president Waleed Muaath has been in London this week examining the chance of persuading a few players including Mahrez.
The Algerian forward has two years left on his contract with City, but sources say he has become dissatisfied with how little time he has been given to play this season under Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola Says Riyad Mahrez Has The Personality And Special Quality
Mahrez started 22 games in the 2022-23 Premier League season, but he has been on the bench for most of his team’s Champions League knockout matches. On February 22, he made his final European start against RB Leipzig.
Riyad Mahrez scored 15 goal and assisted 13 of the 47 matches in the 2022-23 season.
Therefore, Al Ahli are hoping to orchestrate a transfer and persuade Mahrez to relocate to the Middle East. On Monday, Karim Benzema made the move to Al Ittihad, joining Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League. Meanwhile, N’Golo Kante is expected to become yet another well-known player in the league.
According to the close source, Al Ahli have indicated that they would offer Mahrez bonuses worth more than €50 million per season in exchange for a two-year contract with the option of a third.
Mahrez is said to be interested in moving to Saudi Arabia, but it is currently unknown if and for how much City would pay for him to leave. After the Champions League final against Inter Milan on Saturday, the situation is likely to be addressed.
