
The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has revealed its list of nominees for AMVCA 2025. The announcement, which was aired on Sunday, March 23, on Africa Magic channels, is yet another significant step in acknowledging the artistic talent that is transforming the African cinema and television landscape.
MultiChoice’s executive head of content and channels for West Africa, Dr. Busola Tejumola, spoke about the unveiling,
“Seeing this year’s nominees is truly inspiring. Each entry captures a unique aspect of Africa’s vibrant storytellers. I believe these selections reflect both the depth and innovation that are shaping our industry, and they point to an exciting future for African content. This year’s AMVCA not only celebrates excellence in storytelling but also sets the stage for the next wave of creative voices in African cinema.”
After an entry period that started in December 2024, submissions were accepted from productions that were aired or shown between December 1, 2023, and December 31, 2024. The AMVCA 2025 awards currently honor excellence in 27 different categories, including a combination of juried and audience-voted honors, such as the Trailblazer and Lifetime Achievement awards.
Nine audience vote categories and eighteen non-voting categories make up the 27 award categories. Additionally, there are two recognition awards: the Trailblazer Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award. The AMVCA panel of judges, presided over by chief judge and director Femi Odugbemi, will choose the non-voting categories.
The nominees for AMVCA season 11:
Best Movie category– Lisabi: The Uprising, Skeleton Coast, Suspicion, Inkabi, House Of Ga’a, Freedom Way, Christmas In Lagos and Farmer’s Bride have been selected.
The Best Lead Actor: nominees include Gideon Okeke (Tokunbo), Bucci Franklin (The Weekend), Femi Branch (House of Ga’a), Thapelo Makoena (Skeleton Coast), Bimbo Manuel (Princess On A Hill), Stan Nze (Suspicion), Femi Adebayo (Seven Doors) and Adedimeji Lateef (Lisabi – The Uprising).
The Best Lead Actress: category features Chioma Chukwuka (Seven Doors), Gbubemi Ejeye (Farmer’s Bride), Uzoamaka Onuoha (Agemo), Uche Montana (Thinline), Uzoamaka Aniunoh (Phoenix Fury), Hilda Dokubo (The Uprising: Wives On Strike 3) and Bimbo Ademoye (Anikulapo: Rise Of The Spectre).
Additional categories, such as Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, also showcase a remarkable line-up of talent including AMVCA 2025 best actor nominees and actresses shaping the future of the industry.
Voting is now officially LIVE and will continue on the Africa Magic website until the AMVCA season 11 voting deadline on May 4, 2025. This implies that viewers are encouraged to vote for AMVCA 2025 nominees in all voting categories in order to take part in a celebration of talent that keeps redefining African film.
On May 10, 2025, the event will be aired live on all Africa Magic Channels on DStv and GOtv, giving viewers the opportunity to watch AMVCA 2025 in real time.
