On the Tuesday September 17, the Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF) started off in Accra, with filmmakers meeting up to celebrate African film and storytelling.
This is the ninth annual event that has become key in Africa’s film schedule. The 6-days festival which will go through to September 22nd, has brought together producers, industry experts, and film lovers from around the world to celebrate epic storytelling and African cinema.
This year’s theme, “Tell Your Story: Elevating Unique African Narratives,” is centered around the significance of African voices in the global film industry.
By providing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these narratives to reach a wider audience, the Film Festival is committed to providing filmmakers from Africa and its Diaspora with a platform to share their stories.
More than 50 movies from in excess of 20 countries will be exhibited over time, representing a wide scope of genres and styles.
From feature films and documentaries to short films and animations, this year’s lineup promises to deliver thought-provoking, entertaining, and culturally rich content that mirrors the variety of the African experience.
Notwithstanding screenings, BSIFF offers a unique program of studios, masterclasses, and board conversations, including its unmistakable Africa Film Market.
NFA’s Massive Support To These Film Projects
These meetings give important bits of knowledge into the filmmaking industry, financing, and distribution, helping to bridge the gap for African filmmakers who often face barriers in accessing resources and platforms.
BSIFF’s focus on empowering Ghanaian, Black, and African filmmakers is central to its mission. By providing opportunities for emerging talent to connect with industry leaders, the festival aims to foster a thriving African film industry, not just in Ghana but across the continent.
