
After losing the general elections in 2024, Andy Appiah-Kubi, the member of parliament for Asante Akyem North for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), declared his intention to retire from active politics.
Ohene Kwame Frimpong, an independent, defeated him by a landslide victory with 26,926 votes, while Mr. Appiah-Kubi received 8,933 votes.
Kofi Asamoah, the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), received 2,469 votes.
The 67-year-old Ghanaian politician, who served on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, represented the Asante-Akim North Constituency in the Ashanti Region in both the Seventh and Eighth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
Prior to this significant loss, the lawyer had been in charge of affairs in his constituency since taking office in January 2021.
