The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has offered a platform for partnership with Citibank. The latter which is a banking partner for institutions with cross-border needs- in the United Kingdom (UK), will help create a vehicle to support Ghana’s private sector.
Otumfuo made the revelation at the inaugural Black Heritage Network Symposium on August 2, 2024, at the Citi Group UK headquarters in Canary Wharf, London. According to him, the private sector lacks the capital to start and expand businesses.
As a result, the private sector cannot claim to be the country’s growth engine.
Consequently, Otumfuo suggested that his Palace, Citibank, and the Asante Professionals Club (APC) work together to establish a special initiative to establish a well-funded funding vehicle to encourage private sector growth.
The King of the Ashantis is of the opinion that this will result in the creation of employment opportunities for Ghanaians, the accumulation of wealth, the fulfillment of the social requirements of the nation, and a fair return for investors.
Political Parties Should Consider Choosing Outstanding Candidates — Asantehene
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said that this is not a request for charity but rather for mutual prosperity. The King believes that the wealth gap between the north and south will be shut while migration will be abridged.
“For every 1000 jobs created by Ghanaian industries, the pressure on migration in Europe or America eases a notch. It may not be the headliner grabber but it is one practical step that can make a difference. And, guess what, if the Ghanaian economy is in great shape, the world can depend on us to share in the burden of supporting those driven by circumstances to seek”, Otumfuo ended his speech.
