The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is anticipated to grace this year’s Oguaa Fetu Festival of the Oguaa Traditional Council in the Central Region.
On Thursday, July 4, 2024, the Paramount Chief of the Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, brought the invitation through a powerful delegation.
During a meeting that was presided over by the Asantehene and held at the Manhyia Palace, the delegation led by Oguaa Sanaahene Nana Kwaku-Yensu was received by the Asanteman Council.
According to Nana Kwaku-Yensu’s submission, the first week of September will mark the Paramount Chief of Oguaa’s 25th enstoolment anniversary and the 60th anniversary of the festival.
He stated,
“The festival will spring from September 1 to 7 and Osabarima Kwesi Atta invites Otumfuo as the Guest of Honour for the event,”
According to custom, Otumfuo informed the Council and asked for permission, which was granted by all members, who then pledged to go with His Majesty.
The Kontri Division stated,
“This signifies respect and great honour and so we support it. The last time we were in Anlo and just recently we were in Accra and now it’s time for Oguaa. We endorse the invitation”.
In his final response to the delegation, Otumfuo explained that even though he has a lot of power, he can’t just do what he wants because he has to talk to his Council before making any decisions.
Otumfuo stated that he would gladly accept the Central Region’s invitation if they responded positively.
He admitted that even before receiving the invitation, he had planned to attend the gathering in support of his Lodge brother.
Otumfuo stated,
“I thank him (Osabarima Kwesi Atta) for the humility and respect with which he came to extend the invitation”, Otumfuo said.
Traditional Council rulers and the Fetu Festival Planning Committee, led by Charlotte Osei, the nation’s former Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, were among the delegation.
Otumfuo recently accepted an invitation to a durbar from the Ga Mantse, Nii Teiko Tsuru II, and participated in the Hogbetsotso Festival in the Volta Region in 2022.
