Assault On Journalists Should Stop Now— GJA Warns Politicians

Albert Dwumfour, President of the GJA

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has cautioned politicians to forgo attacking journalists as the 2024 election draws nearer.

The GJA has noticed most politicians go past being patient and take advantage of journalists, exposing them to different types of attack any time the political environment gets heated up.

Albert Dwumfour, President of the GJA, gave a speech on Wednesday, July 31, at the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference in Accra, warning politicians about the consequences of assaulting journalists.

As per the GJA President, any such episodes that will happen, during, or after the 2024 elections wouldn’t go on without serious consequences.

Mr Dwumfour further expressed that, Ghana needs strong institutions, not resilient people. He said the GJA and other media block have formed a partnership called the Media Coalition, and that the GJA have begun forewarning and uncovering, amateurish and dishonest conduct in the media space among their members.

“Let me take the opportunity to once again caution politicians, groups who have the tendency of attacking journalists that in this election if you don’t have the temperature or commitment to accommodate journalists you stay away from us because if you come to us with hostility, we welcome you with hostility,” he stated.
