Asset Declaration Deadline: President Mahama Issues Strong Warning To Appointees

As required by Ghanaian law, government appointees who did not declare their assets by March 31 face severe penalties, according to President John Dramani Mahama.

Among the sanctions is the forfeiture of four months’ salaries, which will be sent to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also called ‘Mahama Cares’, which helps people with chronic illnesses.

Prior to declaring his personal assets on February 18, the President had issued a warning that failure to comply would have dire repercussions, including possible termination.

The President imposed these punishments after The Fourth Estate’s research found that 55 appointees, including heads of state institutions, ministries, and deputy ministers, had failed to comply.

Additionally, President Mahama sent a final warning:

“Any appointee who does not disclose their assets by Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the latest, will be immediately removed from office”.

The move by President Mahama is a component of a larger initiative to impose accountability and transparency in the administration.

President Mahama also established a stringent Code of Conduct for appointees, which forbids them from receiving gifts or acquiring governmental property, in keeping with these initiatives.
