A new species of dinosaur found in Australia has been affirmed as the biggest at any point found in the country, and one of the largest in the world.
The fossilized skeleton, nicknamed “Cooper,” was found in southwest Queensland in 2007, at Cooper Creek in the Eromanga Basin. Yet, the skeleton stayed a secret for quite a long time, and has just now been scientifically depicted and named by paleontologists.
Meanwhile, researchers at the Eromanga Natural History Museum (ENHM) and the Queensland Museum has published their discoveries in the PeerJ scientific diary.
The dinosaur whose scientific name is Australotitan cooperensis, is assessed to have strolled the Earth more than 90 million years ago. It was a titanosaur – a plant-eating animal varieties having a place with the group of since quite a while ago necked sauropods, the biggest of the dinosaur species.
The dinosaur is assessed to have reached at a stature of 5 to 6.5 meters (16.4 to 21.3 feet) at the hip, and a length of 25 to 30 meters (82 to 98.4 feet) – making it up to a b-ball court and as tall as a two-story building, as per the historic exhibition hall.
Robyn Mackenzie, co-founder of the Eromanga Natural History Museum, said the group of paleontologists had the option to rapidly set up from the size of the bone sections that they had a place with a huge animal species.
On finding the creature, a few of the enormous pieces, including the dinosaur’s shoulder bones, pelvic bones and appendages, were generally unblemished. The Australotitan was discovered to be connected near three other Australian sauropods that had been found further north in the town of Winton.
The study also points to an open book of further dinosaur discoveries that might be made in Australia. These types of “dinosaur giants” have largely been found in South America so far — making this discovery all the more rare.
