Music they say, is very infectious and spiritual. Music is listened to by many for its masterful production, while others do so for spiritual reasons. However, some people believe that songs with profane content cause social problems.
As a consequence of this, Dr. Richardson Commey Fio, Ghana’s Director for Policy Planning, Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation at the National Commission on Culture (NCC), has criticized profane songs for contributing to an increase in unethical behavior in society.
He claimed that making immoral music was unethical and detrimental to the country’s legitimate values.
In an interview, Dr. Commey stated that he had also observed recently that a number of Ghanaian musicians had turned to writing morally objectionable songs, which should not be tolerated.
The director of the NCC was of the opinion that people were conditioned to do what they were most often exposed to, and that music’s content had the power to influence how people behaved, which was a major factor in lower moral standards.

The increase in songs and other musical content that do not encourage good behavior among people has alarmed the NCC. The question that comes to mind is, “Are we doing music for the sake of doing it?” or “Are we using our creativity to address behavioral issues in our society?”
“We must understand that creativity is supposed to lead a society to emphasise or highlight various aspects of human activity and behaviour towards societal transformation for sustainable development.
“As consumers of music and musical contents, especially parents, we must be mindful and pay attention to the kind of music our children consume since it has the tendency to affect their behaviour, either good or bad,” Dr Richardson Commey Fio stated.
Additionally, the director of the NCC urged the various music organizations to come to an agreement with their members to reduce songs that violate ethics.
As a result, he has requested that all parties involved, including the various associations, encourage their members to follow the right path.
Meanwhile, the National Commission on Culture (NCC) had started a campaign to raise money from outside sources so that artists from all over the country could learn how important their creativity is to the industry’s growth.
