Quite recently, the position for Barcelona’s Presidency got empty after Josep Maria Bartomeu left for various reasons. A few applicants are now competing for this position, with one of them being Victor Font.

In the wake of becoming the President of the club, Font has vowed to put forth a valiant effort to persuade forward Lionel Messi to remain at Barcelona. He has moreover expressed that – he will make the “right conditions” for former manager Pep Guardiola’s return.

The 48 year old hopeful President thinks Lionel Messi leaving the club will be a debacle, particularly when the 33-year-old is generally regarded as the club’s most noteworthy player – who has scored 640 goals, won 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League titles during his 16 years as a professional at the club.

The forward put in an exchange demand in the mid year prior to deciding to stay. Meanwile, Messi’s contract expres the next summer.

The Barcelona Presidential elections is coming up in about two months from now, and Victor Font is confident to win, so he can help persuade the striker to remain. According to Font,

“What Messi needs in order to stay at the club is a competitive project. He wants to win – obviously the lack of a project in recent times has affected the way we compete and therefore I’m very much hoping that whenever the new president takes over, hopefully it will be us, we can convince him to stay.”

Font’s wish is for Messi to finish his career at FC Barcelona.

Victor Font is a co-founder and CEO at Delta Partners. He is a Board member of the firm and is active across all business lines. He is also a member of the Delta Partners Investment Committee and a Board member of several of our portfolio companies.
