In the recently ended Ghana elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2024, provided explanations for his early concession.
Dr. Bawumia claims that he took this action in order to maintain national harmony.
When members of the diplomatic corps visited Dr. Bawumia at his office at the Jubilee House in Accra, he revealed this during his speech.
The NPP learned that it had lost the election early in the morning through its internal collation system.
According to Dr. Bawumia, waiting for the Electoral Commission (EC) to finish compiling its paperwork would therefore result in needless stress, possible unrest, and violence.
According to Dr. Bawumia, he was also worried about how any unrest or violence would affect the nation’s economy, particularly since it was just beginning to recover from its many problems.
According to him, he was also worried about the subregion’s security in the event of violence or conflict in the nation, as terrorists would exploit it to sow chaos.
