
According to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister for Works and Housing, job creation and economic growth will will be the primary focus of Bawumia’s government if they win the elections in December.
The minister provided insight into the NPP’s vision for Ghana’s future under Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership at the first Election 2024 Dialogue on October 3, at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
Oppong Nkrumah, who is also vice-chair of the NPP’s manifesto committee, told the group of law students, faculty, and political observers that Bawumia’s vision is based on transforming Ghana’s economy by strategically shifting from a focus on value addition and industrialization to a focus on raw materials.
According to Oppong Nkrumah, this strategy would guarantee long-term economic growth and the creation of jobs, particularly for young people.
He continued,
“Dr. Bawumia’s plan is to move Ghana beyond being a raw material exporter to becoming a hub for value-added products”
He also revealed that, the NPP’s Declaration includes the production of tech centers and modern parks as a component of endeavors to cultivate development, draw in investments, and support small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
He stated that these initiatives would be crucial to the creation of new jobs and securing Ghana’s place in the global economy.
He also focused on that, under a Bawumia government, the ongoing digitalisation plan will be additionally utilized to formalize the economy and further develop government revenue collection.
“We have already seen significant gains through digital transformation initiatives like mobile money interoperability and the Ghana Card. The next phase will ensure these innovations are fully integrated into our financial systems to support businesses and create more jobs,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia also emphasized the importance of governance reforms to increase transparency and efficiency.
Additionally, Oppong Nkrumah stated that the NPP intends to implement reforms to streamline public services and hold government agencies accountable.
The minister for Works and Housing mentioned that the NPP’s manifesto includes specific plans to scale up affordable housing projects across the country with the goal of reducing the housing deficit in relation to housing issues.

He explained that public-private partnerships would be essential for providing low- and middle-income Ghanaians with housing solutions.
Oppong Nkrumah added that, youth employment remained a priority as the conversation progressed, with specific plans for education reform and entrepreneurship programs to provide young Ghanaians with the skills necessary for the modern economy.
