England midfielder Jude Bellingham has won the 2023 Kopa Trophy given to the best young player under the age of 21. The 20-year-old has made a good start to life at Real Madrid having scored 13 goals in 13 games. He turns out to be first English player to win the Kopa Trophy.
Bellingham scored two times in Saturday’s 2-1 El Clasico win at Barcelona, which incorporated a fantastic balancer and a stoppage-time winner, to give him a goal-a-game record in his first 13 matches.
Bellingham moved to Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in June after the Spanish giants paid an underlying £88.5m with the deal possibly rising to £115m – a record bargain for an English player.
The transfer came after Bellingham dazzled for England in last year’s World Cup in Qatar and verged on bringing home the Bundesliga championship with Dortmund as they barely missed out to Bayern Munich on the final day.
The former Birmingham player has kept on dazzling for the Three Lions after especially in England’s last two wins over Scotland and Italy.
Jude Bellingham’s Record Deal With Real Madrid Is Complete
His form at both international and club level has seen Bellingham become the first English player to win the Kopa Trophy since its beginning in 2018 with Kylian Mbappe (2018), Matthijs de Ligt (2019), Pedri (2021) and Gavi (2022) the past winners.
Bellingham, who finished 18th in the Ballon d’Or voting, beat Bayern Munich forward and former England youth team-mate Jamal Musiala to the honour.
