
After a three-year trial for rape, French World Cup winner Benjamin Mendy signs a two-year contract with Lorient, a team in the French Ligue 1 league.
The left-back was found not liable, but when the verdict was conveyed, his contract with Manchester City had proactively expired. The Premier League champions suspended him in 2021 after he had to deal with charges from the police.

Mendy got through almost three years from football, missing playing in the Premier League titles, FA Cup, and Champions League triumphs with Manchester City, who secured their first-ever Champions League title in June.
After being liberated from all the charges against him, Mendy is now prepared to resuscitate his career and has picked Lorient as the best place to recover his excellent form. As indicated by him, he desires to get back his form, to deliver his best for the French club.
Already, Mendy faced six counts of assault and one count of rape. Notwithstanding, in January, hearers failed to reach at a decision on two of the charges, prompting a second trial. In the new trial, Mendy was vindicated of all charges, bringing down pressure on him and his fans.
Mendy has signed for the Lorient until june 2025 as new left back.
After the verdict, Mendy expressed his gratitude, saying:
“Alhamdulillah,” which means “praise be to God” in Arabic. His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, stated that Mendy was delighted with the jury’s decision and thanked them for focusing on the evidence presented during the trial.
