Benni McCarthy Named The New Coach Of Kenya

The Harambee Stars, Kenya’s national football team, have officially named South African football great Benni McCarthy as their new head coach.

The 47-year-old agreed to a two-year deal that will take him through the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will co-host.

In addition to working as a member of the coaching staff at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag, McCarthy has had coaching positions with Cape Town City and AmaZulu in South Africa. It is anticipated that his managerial background will give the Kenyan national team a new outlook.

Kenya’s current World Cup qualifying campaign is their first obstacle under McCarthy’s direction. With six games left, the Harambee Stars are now five points behind Ivory Coast, who are leading Group F. In the next games, the team will play Gabon at home and The Gambia away.

McCarthy pledged to turn the team’s fortunes around during his unveiling. He pledged to change the negative into the positive.

“People will be surprised by what our team can achieve. Nothing can stop us.” he said.

McCarthy will receive a monthly salary of approximately Ksh8 million (around $62,000), which includes performance-based bonuses tied to specific objectives.
