Lionel Messi has been included in the 2024 Copa América Team of the Tournament, making him one of the best eleven players. The list comes two weeks after the competition.
In five appearances in the 2024 Copa tournament, the captain of Argentina managed just one goal, but he was named in the best team.
Due to an ankle injury, Messi, 37, was substituted in the second half of Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Colombia in the final on July 14.
Along with Barcelona’s Raphinha, Brazil’s sole player, Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martnez was selected in attack. His goal helped Argentina win the title.
Along with Uruguay’s Manuel Ugarte and Argentina’s Rodrigo de Paul, Colombia captain James Rodriguez, who was the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) is also on the list.
Alistair Johnston of Canada was also thrilled to be a part of the team. Johnston, who helped Canada reach the semifinals, quickly wrote on X in response to the good news:
“My Spanish isn’t good, but it looks like a decent XI,”
Davinson Sánchez of Colombia, Cristian Romero of Argentina, and Piero Hincapié of Ecuador were all included in the best eleven.
Emiliano Martnez, Argentina’s key goalkeeper, was selected to play in goal during the tournament in the United States. He ony conceded one goal during the tournament.
In the quarterfinal victory over Ecuador in a penalty shootout, Martinez also made two saves.
