According to Black Stars of Ghana’s head coach Otto Addo, he still remains confident that his team can beat any opponent if they add a bit more passion to their performance.
Ghana’s senior national team failed to get a win in their first two rounds of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, raising eyebrows.
After a shocking 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium, Ghana played Niger in Berkane to a 1-1 draw.
Otto Addo said in an interview after the game that he was disappointed with the Black Stars’ lack of intensity and that he would work on it before their next matches.
“My message to the fans is… I want us to show a different picture than the last match,” he said.
“I think there was no passion on the pitch and it’s my responsibility and I have to make sure they show it on the pitch and if we show this we can win against every team,” he added.
On the third and fourth matchdays of the Group F qualifiers, the Black Stars face a crucial doubleheader against Sudan, both of which must be won.
In the interim, Otto Addo says he is anxious to watch Kotoko, Hearts of Oak play. He has expressed his excitement about watching Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier local league.
The Ghana coach was recently at the stadium to watch the game between Legon Cities and Medeama SC at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, where Medeama got a 1-0 win over the Royals.
Medeama SC and FC Samartex were the early title contenders, according to the 45-year-old. However, he reaffirmed his eagerness to watch the action of the two major traditional teams, Hearts of Oak and Kotoko.
“From what I saw from Medeama and Samartex, they are performing well. So, it could be between these two, but I haven’t watched all the teams yet. I’m looking forward to seeing Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, and other top teams before making any conclusions,” Addo said.
Addo, who is also scouting for local talent, revealed his plan to attend more Ghana Premier League matches this season. “At the moment, I can’t say who will win the league,” he added.
