At a news conference in Accra on April 30, 2025, Attorney General Dominic Ayine responded to accusations of bribery levied against him by Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A-Plus.
Dr. Ayine had previously been charged by A-Plus, the Gomoa Central Member of Parliament, with corruption and participation in the concealment of a significant National Service Scheme (NSS) scandal.
He claimed that between 2020 and 2024, the NSS payroll was overstated by almost 200,000 ghost identities, causing a GHS 68.64 billion loss.
Attorney General Ayine responded by categorically refuting the accusations, calling them politically motivated and without merit. His office would fully assist with any independent investigations into the situation, he said, underscoring his commitment to accountability and transparency.
Dr. Ayine also called on A-Plus to provide concrete evidence to support his claims, asserting that unsubstantiated accusations undermine public trust in governmental institutions.
Additionally, he requested that instead of sitting on social media and making a ton of unsupported charges, A-Plus should call a news conference and provide all of the evidence against him.
While A-Plus has been vocal in his criticism, including previous legal actions against the Attorney General’s office , Dr. Ayine’s recent statements aim to reaffirm his dedication to upholding the rule of law and combating corruption.
