With the addition of three weekly return flights, British Airways is increasing the number of flights between Accra and London.
Announcing this during a media briefing in Accra, British Airways’ Head of sales for Africa, Middle East and South Asia, Moran Birger, said Ghanaian travelers will from October 29, 2023 have more decision of flight times and airports, with extra trips to London Gatwick.
The airline currently operates daily flights between Accra and Heathrow Terminal 5 in London. The new flights will withdraw Accra at 9:20pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, arriving in London Gatwick at 04.00am. The service to Accra will leave at noon and arrive in the capital at 6:35 p.m.
Mr. Birger claims that reestablishing the company’s Africa network following the pandemic provided them with an opportunity to carefully consider potential growth areas and routes.
He went on to say that because Ghana and West Africa are such an important market for them, they have put in a lot of effort to make sure they get it right here. Accra was one of those routes and Africa was one of those regions as a result.
For Tourism Purposes, Ghana Airways Needs To Be Revisited
He stated that Ghanaian travelers will have an alternative entry point to London from Gatwick; also, premium clients as well as Gold and Silver Club members can slide their direction into occasions or family visits in the recently restored lounges.
The addition of cargo capacity on the route by British Airways’ new services also increases opportunities for Ghanaian exporters to quickly transport perishable goods and other goods to market via IAG Cargo, the cargo division of British Airways’ parent company, International Airlines Group.
Mr. Birger stated,
“This is great news for our customers and also adds a lot of extra cargo capacity, allowing Ghanaian exporters to quickly get perishable and all other goods to the [United Kingdom] market”
To mark the new services start, British Airways – which has served Ghana for over 85 years – is offering a launch special with fares from Gatwick to Accra starting from US$2,947 in Club World and US$689 in World Traveller.
As cabin crew, pilots, and check-in agents transition from their current Julien MacDonald uniforms, passengers on those flights will soon begin to see the new British Airways uniform.
It is the first new uniform to be unveiled in 20 years, and was designed by Ozwald Boateng OBE, a British-Ghanaian Saville Row fashion designer and tailor.
