Burkina Faso Is Now The Third-largest Producer Of Onions, Surpassing Senegal

In 2024, Burkina Faso produced more than 400,000 metric tons of onions, marking a major milestone in the country’s agricultural economy.

With this outstanding production, the nation overtakes Senegal as the third-largest producer of onions in West Africa and becomes the ninth-largest producer in Africa.

Rankings of West African Onion Production:

Nigeria: Approximately 1.5 million metric tons.
Niger: Approximately 1.4 million metric tons.
Burkina Faso: Over 400,000 metric tons.
Senegal: Approximately 350,000 metric tons.
