Burkina Faso’s transitional president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has called for a demonstration in favor of his government on April 30, 2025. This call is intended to denounce alleged Western meddling in the nation’s affairs and comes after a recent failed coup attempt.
Pro-junta civil society organizations, such the National Coordination of the Civilian Vigil (CNAVC), have endorsed the planned protests and called on people to gather in large numbers at Ouagadougou’s Place de la République.
Furthermore, marches for solidarity are being planned in key cities around Africa and the world, including as Accra, Dakar, Lagos, Nairobi, Johannesburg, Paris, London, and New York.
The protests follow accusations from U.S. General Michael Langley that Traoré misappropriated Burkina Faso’s gold stockpiles to finance his government.

Traoré and his followers have urged unity against foreign meddling and rejected these accusations as attempts to weaken national sovereignty.
It is anticipated that the demonstration on April 30 will be a big show of solidarity with Traoré’s leadership and a protest against outside interference in Burkina Faso’s domestic affairs.
