Chelsea Unveil A New Home Jersey

This Jersey is motivated by what Chelsea wore during the 1997-98 season

Chelsea unveiled their new home jersey for the 2023–24 season, which features a minimalistic and clean design. But they have abandoned the elaborate patterns and prints of recent years in favour of a simpler reworking of one of their most popular jerseys from the 1990s.

The marginally paler blue shade of the wonderful new pack is straightforwardly motivated by the shirt that Chelsea wore during the 1997-98 season.

Around that time, Chelsea had a strong team that included: Gianfranco Zola, Gianluca Vialli, Roberto Di Matteo and Dennis Wise, who won both the League Cup and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

The Blues have brought back the classic jersey’s white underarm panels and yellow gold sleeve cuff detailing a quarter of a century later.

A few modern flourishes are also present in the 2023–2024 edition, such as the use of iridescent gold for the manufacturer’s marque and crest.

The cut of the shirt is somewhat more smoothed out (dissimilar to the baggier style inclined toward during the 90s) and the texture has additionally been imbued with a matrix like wave weave that loans it a reasonably current look.

The Chelsea midfield duo Di Matteo and Wise, who helped the club win the Charity Shield, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FA Cup twice between 1997 and 2000, joined some of the club’s current star players to launch the new uniform.

Di Matteo also scored in both of those FA Cup finals and the League Cup win, prior to leading the club to Champions League magnificence as their caretaker manager in 2012.

He was given the job full-time, but only made it to November of that year before being fired. Still, it’s good that a decade on he can still return to the club and be hailed as a legend.

Fans who pay attention may also notice that Chelsea’s new home kit does not feature a sponsor logo on the front. This is due to the fact that the club has not yet reached an agreement with a new primary sponsor for the 2023-2014 season, as their previous agreement with the mobile phone network Three® expired last month.

The Blues had purportedly concurred an agreement with streaming service Paramount+, who as of now support last season’s Champions League finalists Inter Milan, to take over as their new shirt sponsor.

The Premier League, on the other hand, vetoed the agreement because it feared that it would upset other overseas Premier League broadcast rights holders.

“Chelsea’s No. 9 Shirt Is Cursed! People Tell Me It’s Cursed!

The new Chelsea home jersey’s clean and simple design is highlighted by the fact it does not have a sponsor across the middle.
The new home kit is due to go on sale via the official Chelsea store on August 16, 2023 and will be available without a sponsor’s logo if a deal has not been signed by then.

The club said on their website: “Fans should be aware that the 2023/24 home kit that features on pitch may subsequently feature a front-of-shirt partner. The club will communicate any changes to the kit in due course.”

It’s unclear whether this means that sponsor will be able to swap out their shirt without a sponsor for one with a logo or whether they will distribute heat transfer patches that can be added later.

But given the new, clean look of the Jersey in its present status, it will be fascinating to perceive the number of fans that choose to stay with it once an option is available.
