On Sunday fourteenth June, 2020, Oprah Winfrey gave an initiation address at the Chicago Public Schools virtual secondary school graduation. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was impossible to hold a traditional graduation function for the huge number of graduates over the U.S., therefore coordinators had to go virtual.
Around 26,000 seniors graduated from the Chicago Public Schools and several major names were invited to grace the event which includes the media personality, Oprah Winfrey, rapper Common, “Hamilton” star Miguel Cervantes and numerous other athletes. This year’s digital event is similarly as uncommon and essential as the past ones.
The virtual graduation, was emceed by Cervantes, a Chicago local, and furthermore included a commencement address from Oprah.
The function was the first ever citywide graduation, as per the city hall leader’s office, including Kris Bryant, Jason Heyward and Kyle Schwarber from the Cubs; Tim Anderson from the White Sox; the Bears’ Charles Leno Jr.; Blackhawks star Patrick Kane; the Sky’s Diamond DeShields and Cheyenne Parker; and the Bulls’ Daniel Gafford.
The “after-party” of the graduation service had other American big names like DJ Khaled, Ellie King, X Ambassadors, “Spiked Little Pill” performers, The Second City, Thomas Rhett, Andy Grammer and Louis the Child.
Chicago Public Schools understudies have since the lockdown in the State, been adapting remotely to constrain the spread of COVID-19.
