Chief Justice Impels The Media To Be Cautious Of Sensationalism

Ghana’s Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, has engaged the media to stay away from pointless sensationalism in their daily court reportage ahead of the country’s 2024 general elections.

During her first meeting with members of the Judicial Press Corps at the Chief Justice’s Conference Room in Accra, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo offered the advice.

“You could be the breakers of the peace in elections and unnecessary sensationalism can trigger situations we have to solve. Learn the intricacies of the legal aspects of elections and report accurately”, she said.

At the meeting was the head of the Legal Press Corps Mr. Wilberforce A. Asare who said thanks to the CJ in the interest of his colleague media practitioners.

The meeting also saw the swearing-in of new members into the Legal Press Corps. Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo recognized the critical role of court reporting and how the right dissemination of information could shape public opinio and understanding of the Judiciary and its role in a democratic state.

She consequently engaged them to figure out the legal cycles and focus on exact reportage over scoops.

The Chief Justice further offered significant thanks for the excellent work done by the Legal Press Corps, in covering the Judiciary/Judicial Service over the years.

She used the chance to request a more amicable joint effort whiles swearing to initiate plans to work with the progression of information to the media from courts the nation over.
