In an interview on UTV’s “Mpu Ne Mpu” program on May 2, 2025, former Deputy Attorney General Diana Asonaba Dapaah responded to claims that the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) supports the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
She vehemently refuted these allegations, saying that the idea that the GBA shows partiality to the NPP is false and baseless. Dapaah underlined the GBA’s dedication to objectivity and its function in preserving Ghana’s legal system.
The removal of the Chief Justice was one of numerous other important topics that the former Deputy Attorney General discussed in the interview.
She stated that the effort to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is a “preconceived orchestration” that is an attempt to undermine the independence of the judiciary.
In addition, the former Deputy Attorney General called Daniel Ofori’s petition to remove the Chief Justice “concocted facts,” implying that it was a part of a larger attempt to meddle in the legal system.
Dapaah emphasized the significance of maintaining judicial independence and requested President John Mahama to lift Chief Justice Torkornoo’s suspension.

The GBA has been under fire for its political affiliations, especially claims of prejudice against the NPP. The Association’s leadership has reacted by repeatedly refuting these allegations.
For instance, GBA President Yaw Acheampong Boafo denounced partisan attacks on the judiciary and legal profession and made it clear that the Association is not a part of any political party.
