Communication Minister Meets With MTN And Other Stakeholders To Discuss Affordability And Quality Service

Samuel Nartey George, Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, recently met with important telecommunications industry participants to discuss a range of industry issues.

Stephen Blewett, the CEO of MTN Ghana, headed a delegation that visited with the Minister on February 24, 2025. The goal of the talks was to strengthen the Ministry’s and MTN’s collaboration in order to aid in the growth of the industry.

Additionally, Hon. Sam George spoke with the National Communication Authority Staff Association (NCASA) on operational concerns and staff welfare.

In a move to make internet services more affordable, Minister George announced plans to establish a multi-stakeholder team. This team, comprising representatives from various government institutions, industry players, and consumer groups, will develop a roadmap to reduce internet data costs in Ghana.

Addressing concerns about the high taxation levels in the telecommunications industry, the Communication Minister expressed intentions to review the tax structure. He stressed that, for some operators like MTN, taxes constitute nearly 40% of their cost buildup, indicating a need for tax reforms to alleviate financial burdens on these companies.

These engagements and initiatives reflect the Ministry’s proactive approach to collaborating with industry stakeholders, enhancing service quality, and making telecommunications services more affordable for Ghanaians.
