
It was a memorable day for Real Sociedad, when they won the 2020 Copa del Rey final, beating Basque rivals Athletic Bilbao 1-0 on Saturday April 3. This is La Real first Copa del Rey win in 34 years.
Because of the Covid pandemic, the final was delayed but in the long run, fell off this Saturday- – at the Seville’s La Cartuja arena without fans. Real Sociedad’s historic goal came from their captain Mikel Oyarzabal in the second half through a penalty.
Sociedad’s Spanish Copa del Rey final win was the first run through the club had won a trophy since 1987. The request of the two clubs to defer the final game to guarantee fans could go to the stadium, denied Athletic a potential Europa League place.
According to Marcelino García Toral, Manager of Athletic Bilbao, his players were not themselves. Sociedad outflanked them and need to salute them on their triumph.

Also, Athletic’s captain Iker Munian says,
they will make an honest effort to dominate the approaching game against Barcelona, since they owe it to the fans.
Although disappointed for not lifting the trophy, Athletico Bilbao has another opportunity to bounce back on April 17, as they come face to face with Barcelona for the 2021 Copa Del Rey Final at the same stadium, La Cartuja.
Athletico has won the Copa del Rey 23 times and eight La Liga titles, however hasn’t won a major trophy since 1984.
