Through the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), the government of Ghana has begun taxing all rides with the Digital Transport Fee.
On all rides, customers would now be charged a GH¢1 digital transport fee.
The Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority Act was the precedent for the introduction of the digital transport services guidelines.
The government claims that the purpose of these guidelines is to guarantee that operators of digital transportation systems comply with the law, uphold high safety standards, and provide high-quality services to passengers.
Drivers On Bolt Will Now Earn More On The Platform
The Ride Hailing Association claims that customers will be charged a GH¢1 Digital Transport Fee in the future, which will result in an increase in ride prices.
Both riders and drivers will be affected by the DVLA directive. It indicates that prices will rise and that, each fare you pay will increase by one cent. As a result, if you choose to take two rides in a day, you will be required to pay an additional GH¢1 to the government.
The DVLA’s review of the market and other parameters will serve as the basis for periodic revisions to the per-trip fee.
Meanwhile, all ride hailing services have been forewarned to observe proper rules to guarantee the wellbeing of travelers, drivers and other road users.
