Cynthia Mamle Morrison, the current Member of Parliament for Agona West, has spoken out about the rifts she claims exist within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which led to the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections and its loss of power after two terms in office.
The MP, who is currently serving in Parliament on the NPP ticket but chose to run as an independent in the 2024 parliamentary election due to internal party problems, recently discussed the differences within the party in an interview with “Smart Ghana.”
Cynthia Morrison believes that all of the party’s national executives should resign from their posts because they have failed the party.
She listed several names of parliamentarians who had been acting disrespectfully, ignoring viewpoints, and failing to even run for office in support of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flag bearer.
She went on to say that some of Dr. Bawumia‘s supporters did not campaign in numerous constituencies while he was actively campaigning, seemingly as a form of retaliation.
Morrison stated that she still loves the NPP despite everything that has happened, and it hurts her a lot that the party’s leadership has allowed this to happen.
According to her, the NPP has suffered greatly from severe divisions and disrespect, and in order for the party to potentially recover, they must sit down and start over.
