Di María Brings His Stint In The Argentina National Team To A Successful End

Ángel Di María will resign from Argentina’s national team on Sunday, July 14, after the final game against Colombia.

He is the third player in La Albiceleste history to make the most appearances. He has scored goals in every one of the finals won by his team.

On September 6, 2008, Di Mara made his senior national team debut against Paraguay in a World Cup 2010 qualifier.

He played 144 matches more than 16 years spell in the team, and will complete third on the historic appearances list for La Albiceleste, behind Lionel Messi (185) and Javier Mascherano (147).

Di María will play the last match for his nation against Colombia on July 14, 2024, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami in the final of CONMEBOL Copa América.

Born in Rosario on February 14, 1988, Di María has been very instrumental in the success story of Argentina. He has been conspicuous over the course of the past ten years.

Argentina won the continental tournament in 2021 and the World Cup in 2022, and it was a finalist in six of the eight major tournaments played from the 2014 World Cup to the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa América (with the exception of the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 CONMEBOL Copa América). They also won the Finalissima in 2022.

Di Mara was a big part of Scaloni’s success in winning all of the titles. In the 2021 CONMEBOL Copa América Final, he scored the only goal to defeat Brazil.

He also scored in the Final’s 3-0 victory over Italy and the 3-3 match against France, which ended in penalties for Argentine victory.

Throughout the entire existence of Copa América, he also holds a significant spot with regards to appearances. In fact, he is the second Argentine with the most matches (27), outperformed by his companion Messi (38).

Prior to enlisting in the senior national team, Di María was a U-20 World Cup champion (2007) and an Olympic hero in 2008, scoring the goal against Nigeria that got gold for Argentina.

Di Maria’s career, which spanned nearly 16 years and produced 30 goals and 29 assists, is coming to an end in Miami, where the winner of the 48th edition of the oldest national team tournament in the world will be selected.
