On Thursday, October 10, the host of the Angel FM Morning Show, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, was taken aback on air when the founder and president of the network, Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN) Dr Kwaku Oteng, called in as a regular caller to wish him a happy birthday.
Okatakyie who is celebrating his birthday was surprised, yet made a move to thank his boss Dr Kwaku Oteng, and further inquired as to whether he was satisfied with his performance up until this point.
Surprisingly, Dr. Kwaku Oteng stated that he was partially content with his position. Even though the founder thinks Okatakyie was doing extremely well, he asked him to open up for advice from him.
He says, he knows that most on-air personalities are hard to get along with, especially when they’re behind the console, but they don’t know that every word they say can hurt them (media owners).
He went on to say that his concern is that the general public, particularly political parties, think that the founders of media companies have some say in what hosts say on air, which is far from the truth.
As a result, as soon as they hear something negative about them, they attack him.
According to Dr Kwaku Oteng, he knows that Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah is one of the finest, smart, and brave hosts, with thousands of listeners, but should ‘cease fire’ sometimes.
He asked him to stop being so hard on some Ghanaian personalities and other sensitive topics.
“You are serving the nation, but unfortunately, people have another angle to everything you do, regardless of how good it is”
He went on to say:
But please do what the people will like, not what you think will benefit you. I know how much you respect me. You are aware that I am a business person. And not all of your strategies will be successful. Please sometimes think of me as well. The backfire I get consistently because of your ‘hard talks’ on air is deplorable. There is a lot of tension because we are in an election year. Since all political parties are very aggressive, I beg you to exercise caution and maintain balance on issues.
He also told Okatakyie that he should talk about the viral Galamsey issues, but that he should be very cautious about what he says not to step on anyone’s toes.

On the other hand, Okatakyie Afrifa sincerely accepted the advice and promised Dr. Kwaku Oteng to pause on some discussions, particularly the Galamsey issues.
