Everton’s Manager: Is David Moyes Returning To The Team?

David Moyes

Following the sacking of Sean Dyche on January 9, 2025, Everton appointed club captain Séamus Coleman and former player Leighton Baines as interim managers.

In their first match in charge, Everton secured a 2-0 victory over Peterborough United in the FA Cup third round, with goals from Beto and Iliman Ndiaye.

As of now, Everton has not announced a permanent replacement for Dyche. Reports suggest that the club is in talks with David Moyes regarding a potential return to Goodison Park.

Moyes, who previously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013, is considered a leading candidate for the position. Other names, such as José Mourinho, have been mentioned; however, recent reports indicate that Mourinho is not being considered for the role.

For now, Coleman and Baines will continue to lead the team on an interim basis until a permanent managerial appointment is made.

Just hours before their FA Cup third-round game with Peterborough, Everton, who are struggling in the Premier League, the club fired manager Sean Dyche.

With just three wins in their first 19 Premier League games this season, the team is only one point above the relegation zone.

According Everton’s statement,

“A new manager was being appointed, and Dyche “has been relieved of his duties as senior men’s first-team manager with immediate effect.”

Everton has consistently been a fixture in the English Premier League.

Despite struggling with relegation in recent seasons, Everton has been a constant in the English top flight since 1954.

Following West Ham’s Wednesday dismissal of Julen Lopetegui, who was later replaced by Graham Potter, Dyche, 53, is the sixth Premier League manager to lose their position this season.
