Foreign Affairs Minister Vows To Cut Down On The Waiting Time For Passport Applications

In an attempt to improve Ghana’s passport system, which is currently beset by an application backlog, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Integration Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced plans to implement a 24-hour passport service.

Mr. Ablakwa, who made the announcement of the new initiative, revealed that:

“We want the passport administration in our country to operate 24 hours a day. This year, you need to be prepared as we will be running three shifts. We aim to reduce the waiting time for passport applications,” he stated.

In order to modernize the passport office and expedite the application process, the Minister presented five major action plans.

He added that specific actions would be taken to achieve well-defined goals. In addition, the minister anticipates a potential decrease in the passport application fee.

The Cost Of Applying For A Passport To Go Down

A normal 32-page passport currently costs GH₵500.00. Any changes will be made to ensure that fees are fair, with wealthier citizens contributing to help those in need pay less.

The honorable MP said, he is dedicated to boosting the welfare of the service employees in addition to increasing the effectiveness of passport processing.
