
The widow of the late President Jerry John Rawlings, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, passed away at the age of 76 at the Ridge Hospital in Accra, leaving Ghana in a state of mourning on October 22.
According to reports, she died after a brief illness. In the afternoon, a presidential declaration announced her death.
She served as First Lady from 1981 until 2001, both during her husband’s administration and before that, during the military era.
In addition, she founded the National Democratic Party (NDP) and the 31st December Women’s Movement.
Her legacy is well known for encouraging Ghanaian women to participate in politics, entrepreneurship, education, and women’s empowerment.
People all around the country have started paying their respects, with many recalling her as a pioneer for women in Ghanaian politics and public life.
